BM Estanislao eyes Morong as top tourist destination

Morong town, a third class municipality in Bataan’s 3rd District, is seen as a prospective tourist destination not only for its serene white beaches but also for its natural forest that attracts environmentalists.

Board Member Jorge Estanislao, former mayor of Morong, said there’s a lot of good things the mountainous municipality can offer once the tourist spots are fully developed. Morong is home to sprawling 300 -hectare Bataan Technology Park (BTPI) formerly the Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC), known for accommodating Vietnamese refugees in 1980s. Estanislao said the Philippine Marines headquarters is now ensconced in BTPI occupying about 100 hectares of prime land. It is the biggest headquarters of Marines in this part of Central Luzon. BTPI is under the management of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). Morong is also host to famous Pawikan Conservation Center which had been propagating and protecting green turtles which is fast becoming endangered species. Anvaya Cove of the Ayala Corp. is also occupying a good niche in the town’s coastal area and has become a favorite hideaway for Metro dwellers. Local officials are hopeful that more investors will be attracted to this municipality a good portion of which is also occupied by then Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
